THE TYPES OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
They’re not always as obvious as you might think. That’s because domestic abuse is about controlling someone’s mind and emotions as much as hurting their body.
Physical Violence Physical violence occurs when someone uses a part of their body or an object to control a person’s actions.
Emotional violence occurs when someone says or does something to make a person feel stupid or worthless coupled with psychological abuse which involves trauma to the victim caused by verbal abuse, acts, threats of acts, or coercive tactics
Verbal abuse occurs when someone uses language, whether spoken or written, to cause harm to an individual.
Financial abuse occurs when someone controls an individual’s financial resources without the person’s consent or misuses those resources.
Spiritual abuse is no less harmful or difficult to endure than any other kind of abuse, as a person’s spiritual life is deeply personal. However, it can be very difficult to identify, as many victims may not recognize they are being abused. In addition, the abusive partner may claim that any challenge to the abuse is an assault on their own religious freedom.
